CM Punjab: Supreme Court disposes of petitions for disqualification

06 Nov, 2013

The Supreme Court on Tuesday disposed of petitions filed for the disqualification of Punjab Chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif. Petitioner Shahid Aurakzai pleaded in his petitions that Shahbaz Sharif should be disqualified on account of attack on the Supreme Court in 1997. However, a two-judge bench led by Justice Saqib Nisar rejected the prayer by Aurakzai and disposed of the petitions.
During the course of proceedings, the Advocate General Punjab appeared before the bench and maintained that Sharif brothers were not involved in the attack on the apex court. The bench questioned that if they were not involved in the attack then why they kept on appearing before the court, upon which the Advocate General replied that the petitioner also made the federation respondent in his application that was why they had to appear in the cases. Later, the bench maintained that none of the courts have talked about the attack on the apex court thus all the petitions stand disposed of on merit.
