Sindh Minister for Local Government Sharjeel Inam Memon has expressed his displeasure over water theft and a huge shortfall on account of recovery of bills faced by the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board. He directed senior officials to take strict action against business of illegal hydrants and assured them that help of police and rangers personnel will also be provided to break the vicious circle.
He was presiding over a meeting of senior officials of LG department at his office here on Friday. The meeting was attended among others by the Secretary LG department and MD Karachi Water and Sewerage Board. The minister was informed that the KWSB at present is facing a shortfall of Rs 250 million every month on account of billing as people in many localities do not pay their bills on regular basis.
The minister directed the officials to make all-out efforts to improve the recovery position. The minister was briefed on salient features of the sewerage treatment plant called S-III and impact thereof on mitigating environmental pollution in the metropolis. Sharjeel directed that work on the project must be started within next 20 days, failing which serious action shall be initiated against the concerned officials.
