The High Commissioner of United Kingdom Adam Thomson called on the Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan here on Wednesday. During the meeting, issues of mutual interest including the geo-political situation of the region were discussed.
Expressing satisfaction on the current Pak-UK relations, the Federal Minister said that Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with UK and stressed the need to further strengthen the bilateral relations between two countries. Both dignitaries discussed the security developments in light of recent US drone attack that killed TTP leader Hakimullah Mehsud. The Federal Minister said that the US drone attack has sabotaged the peace initiative that was built after weeks of efforts in light of the consensus reached in the All Parties Conference. He said that the government is committed to establish lasting peace in the region through dialogue; however co-operation from the other side is also necessary for any such process to succeed.
The Minister also underlined the importance of stopping the drone attacks as no peace initiative can be initiated unless the drone attacks are stopped. In the meeting, the Minister dilated upon the co-operation being extended to Pakistan by UK in the fields of development, counter terrorism, policing and appreciated the institutional support in these areas. The High Commissioner appreciated the sincere efforts of the government for establishing peace in the region and said that UK is ready to play a positive role in this regard that can be helpful in bringing durable peace in the region.-PR
