Sensitive districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Cellular networks suspended

Mobile phone services remained suspended for specified hours in Peshawar and other most sensitive districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, including Tank, DI Khan and Hangu, in order to avoid unforeseen incident on 9th and 10th Muharram. Keeping in view the uncertain law-and-order situation, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government requested Federal Government for suspension of cellular networks on 9th and 10th Muharram in the most sensitive districts, mainly Peshawar, Kohat, Hangu, Tank and DI Khan.
The government, through the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), directed the mobile operators in the country to keep their wireless and cellular services offline in various cities on account of security threats. In Peshawar mobile services remained suspended for specified hours in Saddar, and interior city areas. The police also installed mobile phone jammers on various routes of mourning procession and nearby by Imambargahs in city and Sadder areas, including Kohati gate, Kochi bazaar, Dalgra, Qissa Khawani, Kabali gate, Hashtnagri, Ganj gate, and main Peshawar Saddar. Similarly, the cellular network was blocked in other highly sensitive districts, Tank, Hangu and DI Khan on eve of 9th Muharram, and service will also remain suspended on Ashura.
