Pursuant to the recommendations of the experts, the Punjab government intensified efforts for improving vector surveillance and indoor surveillance, as current temperature is still favourable for the breeding of dengue mosquito. Necessary instructions have been issued to quarters concerned to intensify targeted fogging and indoor spray in such union councils which have a high rate of dengue patients, sources in the health department said.
It may be noted that experts are laying emphasis on destroying dengue larva through mechanical method so as to protect environment and human health, however, targeted spray and fogging is being conducted in the affected areas. Nevertheless, people will have to change their habits and lifestyle to get rid of dengue. The PML-N senior leader Muhammad Pervez Malik said Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif is committed to eradicate the menace of dengue because efforts are well on the way for eradication of this scourge with a missionary zeal. Due to timely measures taken by the government, dengue situation is improving, he said, adding: "All government machinery is alert and there is no room for negligence or laxity in the efforts aimed at curbing the dengue." He said there is a need for implementing anti-dengue regulations in letter and spirit besides taking stern action under the law against those not following these regulations. He said instructions have been issued for immediate recruitment of staff for continuing the campaign against dengue in an effective manner.
