The ANF holds fifth Inter Agency Task Force (IATF) meeting to focus LEAs collaborated efforts against drug menace at Karachi. According to details issued here on Tuesday, ANF Karachi in its meeting, which was also attended by higher officials from 12 LEAs, mainly focused to maximise effectiveness of anti-narcotics campaign of Karachi operation "Umeed e Nau".
ANF Commander Karachi paid special emphasis to the ongoing Karachi operation and apprised that in this context a total of 82 operations have been conducted so far. Furthermore, he also apprised ANF seizure under operation "Umeed e Nau", which broadly included seizure of 114 kg of heroin, 10 tons of hashish, 3.4 tons of opium, 27.5 tons of poppy seed, 0.5 kg of cocaine, 2.5 kg of crystal, 1,751 Ecstasy Tablets and 2,200 liquor bottles.
It was decided to enhance mutual co-operation among all LEAs, especially to target drug mafia and addiction dens. It was also apprised that about 20 renowned addiction sites at Karachi have been completely sanitised/cleaned-up and repeated surveillance is also being ensured. In the conference local police have been asked to guard against re-emergence of addiction sites. ANF also apprised that total of 200 addicts have been hauled-up during clean up operations, out of which 158 addicts have been sent to ANF Drug Addiction Treatment Centers, which provided free treatment, boarding and lodging facilities. At the end it was emphasised that all agencies concerned to take meaningful and tangible measures to fulfil the objectives of IATF Forum under operation "Umeed e Nau" and to eradicate Drug menace from Karachi.-PR
