PTI requisitions Punjab Assembly session

26 Nov, 2013

Opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly Mian Mehmood-ur-Rashid has demanded immediate session of the provincial assembly, saying that "People's Assembly" will be staged in the assembly premises in case of delay. He was addressing a joint press conference of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Jamaat-i-Islami and Pakistan Peoples Party.
He criticised the Chief Minister Punjab for not taking interest in provincial affairs, leading to worsening law and order in the province. The price hike is also unprecedented in the province, he added.
He said there is an immediate need of assembly session but repeated requests of the opposition were falling on deaf ear of the provincial government. He said the PTI has given voice to the public aspirations by protesting against drone strikes.
He said the PML-N leadership has warned Rana Sanaullah repeatedly but he was not abstaining from naming the opponents, a practice not suits his stature. PPP member Faiza Malik said the performance of the government was extremely poor despite lapsing of five months. Public despair is rising with every passing day, she added. She said the Punjab government has neither constituted standing committees of the Punjab Assembly nor appointed the Parliamentary Secretaries so far, which is enough to prove that the government was not serious in its business.
