The Lahore High Court here on Monday issued notices again to Chairman Pakistan Central Censor Board and Federal Government for reply by December 12 in a petition of an anchor challenging smuggling of Indian films and their exhibition in Pakistan. The court had already directed the respondents to make sure the implementation of relevant laws for stopping the smuggling of the Indian films and their exhibition in the country.
As hearing started on Monday, the court was informed that no reply and comments had been submitted by the respondents. The petitioner Mubashar Luqman, through his counsel pleaded that Pakistan Censor Board was issuing licenses to illegally smuggle Indian films on fake documentation.
He pleaded that the Indian films were promoting terrorism and lawlessness in Pakistan. He pointed out the Indian films were being screened in Pakistani cinemas in violation of law.
The petitioner requested the court to direct the Custom authorities to stop this illegal practice. He also prayed to initiate action under the Custom Act against relaying smuggled Indian films and to stop issuing fake licenses to such films.
