Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday directed the petitioner to place on record a copy of verdict of Supreme Court of Pakistan regarding placing the name of General Pervez Musharraf (retd) on Exit Control List (ECL). A division bench of SHC headed by Justice Ghulam Sarwar Korai was seized with the hearing of the petition filed by Advocate Moulvi Iqbal Haider, seeking to retain the name of Musharraf on ECL till a treason case against him was decided.
The petitioner submitted that he had filed a petition in apex court, seeking court's directives to respondent-ministry of Interior for putting Musharraf on trial for subverting the constitution.
He said the court had issued a verdict in the petition, directing FIA to conduct investigation into treason case against Musharraf and place his name on ECL. He said that a three-member bench headed by SHC Justice Faisal Arab had been constituted to hear Musharraf's trial under Article 6 of the Constitution. He submitted that Musharraf wanted to flee the country; therefore, he had filed an application for removal of his name from ECL.
The petitioner requested the court to declare that Musharraf?s name on ECL be kept till the disposal of treason case against him and restrain federal authorities from striking off his name from ECL. The bench adjourned the hearing of case to December 05.
