What is India up to? It has been reported that the Indian authorities are planning to construct a 10-metre high embankment along the 198-km stretch of international border that separates occupied Kashmir from Pakistan. It has been stated that wall will be higher and wider than both the Berlin Wall and the highly controversial serpentine barrier that Israel is creating.
The report further says that instead of brick and mortar that went into the making of the walls in Berlin and Israel, the proposed embankment will use earth excavations to create a parallel trench, making movement almost impossible. The question is: why doesn't India learn a lesson from what happened to the Iron Curtain that symbolised the ideological conflict and physical boundary dividing Europe into two separate areas from the end of World War II in 1945 until the end of the Cold War in 1991 with the break-up of the Soviet Union.
