Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain Tuesday said that women are an integral part of the society and deserve to be given due respect, sanctity and protection to establish a developed society. He said this while addressing the members of Rabita Committee on International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women, said a statement issued by his party here.
He said that his party has been advocating against violence on women from day one and has the distinction of tabling "women protection" bill in the National Assembly and getting it passed. It is the need of hour that women protection bill should be abided by in letter and spirit and those who violate should be dealt with firmly, he added.
He further said that Islam has given clear instructions to respect and protect women and we can only put ourselves on progressive track and establish an Islamic society, if we stop violence against women. He said that women are working with men on all fronts in his party and advocating equal rights for women from its platform. On the occasion, the party's Rabita Committee also called for taking concrete measures for protection of women's rights in the country.
