Punjab Minister for Food Bilal Yaseen has said 30 important markets have been identified in the city to ensure sale of vegetables on government prescribed rates and this number will be increased to 100 in phases. He said that the Commissioner Lahore Division and DCO Lahore have been asked to point out 6 to 10 places in every town where fruits and vegetables could be sold on controlled rates.
This was stated by him while chairing the Cabinet Committee meeting for ensuring sale of daily use commodities on government rates. The meeting was also attended by the Punjab Agriculture Minister Dr Farrukh Javed, Minister for Industries Chaudhry Shafiq and various others.
Bilal Yaseen said that 89 price control magistrates would perform their duties in these identified markets and ensure provision of fruits and vegetables on controlled rates. He hoped that these fair price shops where fruits and vegetables would be provided in abundance would also help bringing down the prices of these items in the market to a reasonable extent. The Punjab Food Minister said profit of growers, auctioneers, middleman and retailer would be fixed at a reasonable level to end unjustifiable profiteering in fruits and vegetables.
