Seminar on 'Promoting Civic Responsibility' held

A one-day seminar was held by Centre of Policy Studies (IPS), COMSATS Institute of Information and Technology (CIIT) Islamabad in cooperation with Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) titled "Promoting Civic Responsibility" here on Tuesday. The Director of Centre for Policy Studies, COMSATS Khalid Saeed highlighted the fact that civic responsibility was an important issue facing the society and needed looking from various aspects.
He added that the centre was trying to conduct seminars involving scholars and practitioners by suggesting practical measures and implementable policies for decision makers. Kristof Duwaerts, Resident Representative of HSF urged on the role and salience of civic education in building post- World War II Germany. This could help in drawing certain relevant lessons for other countries as well.
Professor Dr Najma Najam, Vice Chancellor Karakorum International University, Gilgit in her video presentation in "Defining Civic Responsibility" highlighted the definitional aspect of civic paradigm based on her experience in professional life and empowerment of youth and women and suggested a paradigm shift in attitudes and behaviour in building a healthy a civic society.
Khalid Rehman, Director General IPS, underscoring pivotal role of Islam in promoting civic and ethical values in Pakistani society, said that the eternal pristine values of Islam should not be equated with the actual un-Islamic practices of certain prevailing Muslim countries.-PR
