The Capital police on Tuesday submitted a challan in the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) against Sikandar, a lone gunman who paralysed the city for over five hours on August 15. The Kohasar police station in their challan, declared Sikandar as the central accused. The challan said that Sikandar has put the lives of innocent people in danger by using his own children as a shield. The police investigators have recorded the statement of 30 witnesses including police personnel against Sikandar.
On August 15, Sikandar, accompanied by his wife Kanwal and two minor children entered the Red Zone in a black car (RID-1705) around 4:00pm when police intercepted him at a check-post, after he created fear and panic firing in air in the area. Soon after the incident, a heavy contingent of police, rangers and a large number of local people gathered in the area where this armed man had parked his car in the middle of the road.
The incident had brought Islamabad to a standstill. But the plan of the authorities to avoid bloodshed was marred by PPP leader Zamarud Khan, who broke the security limits and approached Sikandar's family. Sikandar escaped Zamarud's tackle but as he raised his hands and ran, he was shot at and then taken into custody along with his wife.
