Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani on Thursday chaired a farewell meeting with corps commanders and expressed confidence in the military's ability to deal with any challenge. Kayani, who will retire on Friday (today) after serving as the COAS for six years, discussed the country's internal security situation along with other professional matters pertaining to the armed forces with the Commanders at the Army General Headquarters.
The corps commanders paid glowing tributes to the services rendered by 61-year-old Kayani. General Kayani also lauded the co-operation and professional services delivered by the corps commanders.
On the occasion, General Kayani said the military was capable and equipped to deal with any challenge, adding that the troops had been given modern training from professional point of view. Kayani is the longest serving Army chief under a civilian government in the history of Pakistan.
A notification regarding the appointments of General Sharif and General Mahmood has also been issued. The notification was sent to formation commanders of the Pakistan Army.
