The senior most general of Pakistan army, Lieutenant-General Haroon Aslam retired, after he was superseded by General Raheel Sharif as Chief of Army Staff and General Rashad Mahmood as Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee. He lodged silent protest by staying away from the dinner hosted for him by Logistics Cell; and he also did not attend Corps commanders' conference on Thursday. It should be mentioned that General Haroon had allegedly played a key role in the ouster of Nawaz Sharif from power. The then Brigadier Haroon allegedly led a team to arrest all the cabinet members, including the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
General Aslam, as a token of silent protest, did not appear in the dinner hosted in the Prime Minister's House on late Wednesday night.
The sources had already predicted that he would tender his formal resignation today to the Defence Ministry and move to Lahore for finalising his future plans; thus, would not attend the change of command ceremony as well.
