Pakistan said Saturday that its High Commission in New Delhi has approached the Indian External Affairs Ministry to seek details of the death of a Pakistani prisoner in Jammu jail. According to Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam the ministry came to know from the Indian media that a Pakistani prisoner Shaukat Ali has allegedly committed suicide in the jail.
However, she said Pakistan is yet to get details from the Indian side about the incident, adding that Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi has already approached the Indian External Affairs Ministry to share the details of the incident. The Indian media quoting Jammu police claimed that Shaukat Ali, who hailed from Sialkot in Punjab, committed suicide late last night by hanging himself from an iron grill inside his barrack. He had been lodging in the jail since 2011 on charges of crossing border illegally.
