Prices of essential food items increase

Prices of majority of the essential food items increased last week as compared to the preceding week, according to a survey conducted by Business Recorder on Saturday.
During the week under review, wheat flour (10 kg bag) was being sold at Rs 410-415 against Rs 400 last week price, registering an increase of Rs 10-15 per bag, chicken live was being sold at Rs 165-170 per kg against Rs 150-155 last week, registering an increase of Rs 15 per kg, eggs were available at Rs 110 per dozen against Rs 100 per dozen last week price, tomatoes were available at Rs 60 per kg against Rs 55 per kg last week price, registering an increase of Rs 5 per kg, vegetable ghee tin (2.5 kg) at Rs 514 against Rs 510, registering an increase of Rs 4 per tin, vegetable ghee loose was being sold at Rs 140-175, potatoes at Rs 35-40 per kg and sugar was being sold at Rs 55 to Rs 60 per kg last week as compared to the preceding week.
The survey noted mix trend in perishable food items' prices like vegetables, as some of the vegetables registered slight increase in their prices, while others remain unchanged last week as compared to the preceding week, as peas were being sold at Rs 60-65 per kg against Rs 50-60 per kg last week price, registering an increase of Rs 5 per kg, green chilli at Rs 103 per kg against Rs 100 per kg week past prices, reflecting an increase of Rs 3 per kg carrot and radish were being sold at Rs 30 per kg, ginger at Rs 200 per kg and garlic was being sold at Rs 150 per kg last week as compared to the preceding week.
Prices of different kinds of fruits almost remain unchanged in the different markets of the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad last week as compared to the preceding week as kino was being sold at Rs 100- 160 per dozen, malta was available at Rs 130-200 per dozen. Apple was being sold at Rs 100- 160 per kg in retail market, grapes were available at Rs 300 per kg, bananas at Rs 80-130 per dozen and guava was being sold at Rs 100-120 per kg during the period under review.
However, non-perishable food items, which prices remain stable last week as compared to the preceding week include: cooking oil tin (2.5 liter) at Rs 540, curd at Rs 90 per kg, milk fresh at Rs 70-85, moong washed was being sold at Rs 150-160 per kg, masoor washed was available at Rs 130-140 per kg, mash washed at Rs 140-160 per kg, rice at Rs 80- 150 per kg, Tea loose Rs 560 per kg, spices at Rs 290-300 (250 gm) and rice broken was being sold at Rs 70 per kg last week as compared to the preceding week. Similarly, no change was observed in meat prices as mutton was being sold at Rs 600-620 per kg, while beef was being sold at Rs 300 per kg last week as compared to the preceding week.
