Islamabad attack: Supreme Court seeks report

The Supreme Court on Monday sought a detailed report from Federal Interior Secretary, Chief Commissioner and IGP Islamabad pertaining to a terrorist attack on Islamabad District and Sessions Courts. Taking notice in response to a report of the registrar's office, the Chief Justice issued directives to the concerned authorities to appear before the court with a report on Tuesday (today). The Chief Justice termed the incident a violation of fundamental rights, guaranteed under Articles 9, 14 and 24 of the Constitution of Pakistan.
"The matter be registered as petition under Article 184(3) of the Constitution and fixed for hearing on March 4, 2014 at 9.00 am," the Chief Justice directed the concerned office. The Chief Justice also directed the IGP: "Submit a list of police officials posted at the District Courts, Islamabad for security duties, stating as to whether all such personnel were present on duty at the time of incident and what security measures were in place to prevent incident of the kind; a comprehensive report to this effect be also produced in the court".
The court has also issued notice to the Presidents of Islamabad High Court Bar Association and Islamabad District Bar Association to assist the Court. The Chief Justice also asked the registrar's office to seek a report from the provincial Chief Secretaries relating to the measures taken for maintenance of security in the court premises in their jurisdiction within 3 days.
Meanwhile, Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Muhammad Anwar Khan Kasi on Monday constituted a committee to probe the tragic incident of firing and suicide bomb blasts at Islamabad District Courts. The committee comprises Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui and Registrar, Islamabad High Court. The CJ directed the committee to initiate an inquiry of the incident immediately and submit its report along with recommendations to the CJ's office.
