Journalists Welfare Safety and Development Foundation (JWSDF) Pakistan has decided to support the families of journalists who were martyred in the line of duty and would also take steps for provision of better education, healthcare and shelter facilities for the terrorism affected people, along with working in development of livelihood sector.
This decision was taken in a meeting of the foundations cabinet which was held at Peshawar Press Club with its chairman Ali Hazrat Bacha in the chair on Wednesday.
The foundation patron-in-chief Syed Bukhar Shah Bacha, Vice Chairman Rahmatullah Khan, Joint Secretary Wajidullah Khan, Press Secretary Khalid Ghani and Office Secretary Sajid Shah discussed the issues in detail and distributed assignments for achieving the objectives.
The meeting decided that in the first phase complete data will be compiled about the deceased media persons to know about present source of income of the bereaved families. Similarly data of the ailing, jobless journalists will also be collected so that they could be supported financially. For the purpose data form was prepared to be submitted to the JWSDF's cabinet for onward process.
The meeting extended the date for submission of membership form up to March 31, 2014 and after this date the process would remain closed till next March. The participants stressed the need to further strengthen the co-ordination with rest of press clubs and journalists unions. Special attention would be given on security and professional training of the media persons to enhance their skills in different fields.
