Updated 14 May, 2018

Defending Nawaz Sharif for his recent statement on 2008 Mumbai attacks, Prime Minister (PM) Shahid Khaqqan Abbasi has said that the former premier was misquoted and misinterpreted by media.

PM addressed a press conference, hours after chairing a National Security Committee (NSC) meeting to discuss the ousted PM's statement and after meeting with Sharif. PM Abbasi said that Sharif he had not made any statements that had been attributed to him.

Throwing his weight behind the deposed premier, PM Abbasi said, "As the PM, I stand with Nawaz Sharif." Abbasi further said that he would not resign from his position till May 31.

PM Abbasi's support for Sharif came hours after NSC released a press release after the meeting, in which the statements made by Sharif regarding Mumbai attacks were rejected.
