Drought-hit Thar: two more children die in hospital

Two more children died in the drought-hit district of Tharparkar in Civil Hospital here on Monday. A focal person of Drought Children of Civil Hospital Dr Muhammad Anwar Palari informed that one of the victims was identified as one month-old baby Samina Rahimo from Umerkot, while the other was a two-month old boy Baboo s/o Wasoo from Chachro Taluka.
Meanwhile, six children were admitted to civil hospital. Dr Palari said that children between six and 10 years were being brought to the hospital daily. He informed that many of these deaths were caused by sepsis, a blood infection, pneumonia, premature births and eight by asphyxia. On the directives of Acting Vice Chancellor Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) Jamshoro, Professor Muneer Ahmad Junejo, two teams of medical and paramedical staff on Monday visited drought-hit area to provide medical aid to the affected area. According to LUMHS spokesman, the team of expert doctors headed by Professor Salma Shaikh, Professor Muhammad Akbar Nizamani and Professor Bikharam visited Mithi to provide health advice and necessary medicines to the people.
