The Supreme Court Thursday issued notices to federal Secretary Port and Shipping, Secretary Cabinet Division, Chairman, Director General Administration and seven other officials of Port Qasim Authority (PQA) over their failure to submit a report over illegal appointments in the Authority.
The petitioner, Abdul Jabbar Memon, had filed a plea, urging the court to summon officials, mentioned in the petition to explain the factual position regarding 891 illegal appointments from grade 2 to 21 between 2007 and 2013 despite the fact that the Supreme Court had granted a stay order against further appointments and promotions and transfers in the PQA and the ministry.
Appearing before a three-member bench of Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, the petitioner prayed for contempt of court proceeding, against the concerned officials as they failed to submit a report in pursuance of court's orders pertaining to the illegal appointments.
