If Cannes Film Festival 2018 wasn’t exciting enough, actress Kristen Stewart sure made it more exciting by kicking off her heels on the red carpet and walking barefoot to protest against the ‘no flats’ Cannes rule.

The Twilight actress made a political statement at the 71st annual Cannes Film Festival held at Palais des Festivals by ditching her black Christian Louboutin heels and climbing up the stairs  bare feet as a sign of protest.

Cannes Film Festival has a rule that women at the gala premiers must wear heels and ‘no flats’ while men must wear a black tie. Stewart, who was at the gala premiere for Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman, broke the rule by taking off her heels and carrying them in her hands after getting photographed on the red carpet, reported Elle.

The 27-year-old actress has previously also been vocal about the unspoken flat-shoe ban after a group of female attendees were reportedly turned away at the premiere of Carol back in 2015 for wearing flats. Stewart had said earlier, “I feel like you can’t ask that anymore, but it’s still a given. If you’re not asking guys to wear heels and a dress then you can’t ask me either.”

The Personal Shopper star, nonetheless, looked dazzling wearing a silver long-sleeved mini dress with glittering embellishments and black heels, which she later ditched after the main photographs. With her ombre hair styled back and her smokey eyes, she did grab a lot of attention.

People across social media applauded Stewart’s braveness.
