Lahore's Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT) finally carried its much-awaited test drive on Wednesday after much delay, with Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif as one of the passengers.

Twenty seven trains with five bogies each come under the OLMT project. The trains will carry 250,000 passengers daily, whereas by 2025, the OLMT will carry 500,000 people per day.

The new transit system has been launched with the aim to further ease the transportation woes of the city. The train will reduce time to reach destination, as distance that normally needed 2.5 hours to cover will now be covered in just 45 minutes.

The Punjab CM inaugurated the project and termed the OLMT as a 'gift' for citizens. He vowed to introduce such facilities in other parts of the country, including Karachi and Peshawar.
