The newly appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Trade Development Authority (TDAP) S M Munir and Consul General Pakistan in Hong Kong Ghufran Memon jointly inaugurated the Pakistan Pavilion at the Asia Pacific Leather Fair 'APLF 2014 Show' here in HK on Monday.
A large number of businessmen, professionals, traders and the representatives of Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) led by its Chairman Sheikh Saqib Saeed Masood attended the ceremony. A total number of 80 companies from Pakistan are attending the APLF fair that will last till April 2. The fair is seen as the major international show for the Pakistan's tanners with existing and new buyers attending from all over the world, particularly from Asia.
Speaking at the occasion, Ghufran Memon, the Consul General Pakistan in HK said that Pakistan was producing excellent quality leather and lather goods, which are highly competitive in the world markets. He hoped that Pakistan pavilion would prove to be a point of attraction for buyers.
Sheikh Masood Chairman PTA appreciated the co-operation extended by the Consulate General of Pakistan in HK in organising PTA pavilion at the APLF. APLF is the annual premier event for the global leather industry, serving as the hub for leather-related businesses and a must-attend buying platform for fashion professionals. Established in 1984, APLF has since gained a reputation for high-quality, innovative products and fashion-forward trends.
This year more than 20,000 buyers from 90 countries are attending the APLF. Sheikh Masood said that around $35 million of export orders of finished leather are expected to be concluded during the fair, which will give quite a good boost to Pakistan's economy. The countries like Indonesia, Vietnam, the US, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, China, India, Taiwan, Germany, Canada, Turkey, Italy, Czech Republic, Romania, Poland, and Hungry make special market for Pakistan's leather, Masood said.
