Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said Pakistan believes in a policy of non-interference and fully supports the democratic process in Afghanistan. Talking to Britain's National Security Advisor Kim Darroch here at the PM House he said "our soil will not be used against Afghanistan."
Prime Minister said Pakistan desires peace and stability in the region and has no wish to enter into any arms race in the region. Prime Minister said Pakistan was facing huge challenges particularly in areas of economy, energy and terrorism. He said government's progressive policies have shown positive results on economy, while concrete steps were being taken to overcome the energy crisis.
On the issue of terrorism, the Prime Minister said "we have evolved consensus, amongst all the stakeholders, for dialogue." He said there was a need to enhance investment in social sectors, particularly health and education and mentioned the steps taken in this regard.
He was also appreciative of UK's support for Pakistan in the social sector. Chief of Defence Staff General Sir Nicholas Houghton, Special Representative on Afghanistan and Pakistan Simon Gass, British High Commissioner Philip Barton, Advisor to PM Satraj Aziz and Special Assistant to PM Tariq Fatimi also attended the meeting. British National Security Advisor Kim Darroch said his country supports the objectives of Pakistan's internal security and also expressed confidence in government's economic policies that he added were poised to yield positive results.
