Crisis management in Thar - demand of time

04 Apr, 2014

I want to draw the attention of concerned authorities towards the issue of lack of crisis management in Tharparkar. By watching the current situation of a drought-hit Tharparkar, one is impelled to conclude that government has shown irresponsible behaviour towards these human dimensions. Every country may face such difficult situations as each part of it might not be equal. As Tharparkar is a desert area where food and water is not in plenty so the people of Thar have to work hard to meet their basic needs.
These people are facing these conditions for so many years but no pre-emptive measures have been taken for the welfare of these people. The government didn't pay attention to this area, as a result this area got hit by severe famine and drought. But the attitude of government is still not changed; they keep on going and so the rehabilitation of affected Tharis is further delayed; they don't know about the exact scenario. How much area is affected? What is the exact number of affected people? These questions were arising but they didn't answer them properly and hence chaos created. This whole scenario indicates that there was severe lack of crisis management. They should have created crisis cell immediately and could have created the team to visit Thar and plan to recover and control what has happened. There should be only one spokesman who will give exact and precise news to media. Hotlines should be allotted so that donors can contact and show generosity. Aids in the form of money and food products are highly needed.
But unfortunately this didn't happen. May be government was unaware of crisis management or they were just taking this situation lightly as ever. Had they planned immediately, many lives would have saved. We all should make our contribution to save the lives of people who belong to us.
