France are into the Davis Cup semi-finals after a tenacious fightback secured a 3-2 win over Germany in their last-eight tie in Nancy on Sunday. Gael Monfils secured the decisive fifth point with a 6-1, 7-6 (7/0), 6-2 win over Peter Gojowczyk after Jo-Wilfried Tsonga had earlier levelled the tie at 2-2 beating Tobias Kamke 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.
Germany had shrugged off the absence of their top six players to race into a shock 2-0 lead on Friday.
Julien Benneteau slumped to a 7-6 (10/8), 6-3, 6-2 loss to world number 96 Kamke.
Then world number 12 Tsonga squandered a match point to lose 5-7, 7-6 (7/3), 3-6, 7-6 (10/8), 8-6 to Gojowczyk, the world 119.
The French had kept the tie alive when Michael Llodra and Benneteau beat Kamke and Andre Begemann 6-1, 7-6 (7/5), 4-6, 7-5 in Saturday's doubles.
France, who were coming back from 2-0 for the fourth time in Davis Cup history, will face defending champions Czech Republic in September's semi-finals.
