09 Apr, 2014

The Federal Board of Revenue has called all the Chief Collectors and Collectors of Customs at the FBR House to explain the reasons for low sales tax, withholding tax as well as customs duty collection at the import stage during March 2014, and for putting in place future plan to overcome shortfall in collection from imports in last quarter (April-June) 2013-14.
Sources told Business Recorder here on Tuesday that a national conference of Chief Collectors and Collectors of Customs would be held on Friday (April 11) at the FBR to check revenue leakage regarding sales tax, withholding tax and customs duty at the import stage for improving collection through clearance of imported consignments. Sources said that the Chief Collectors and Collectors of Customs Conference will be held on Friday, April 11, 2014 at 10.00 am in the Conference Hall, 3rd Floor FBR House. The conference will be chaired by Tariq Bajwa Chairman, FBR.
The agenda of the conference included revenue collection (customs duty, sales tax, withholding tax, Federal Excise Duty) during third quarter of 2013-14 specifically March, 2014. Chief Collectors and Collectors of Customs would present the analysis of lower collection of sales tax and withholding tax in March, 2014 apart from customs duty. The conference would finalise a strategy to achieve revenue targets of customs duty, sales tax, withholding tax and Federal Excise Duty in the remaining period of the 2013-14.
