The Karachi Port handled 153,336 tonnes of cargo comprising 105,702 tonnes of import cargo and 47,634 tonnes of export cargo including 5,381 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 105,702 tonnes comprised of 37,462 tonnes of containerised cargo; 3,292 tonnes of general cargo; 17,948 tonnes of bulk cargo: 14,529 tonnes of coal; 3,419 tonnes of soyabean meal and 47,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 47,634 tonnes comprised of 42,629 tonnes of containerised cargo; 15 tonnes of general cargo and 4,990 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 5,381 containers comprising 2,263 containers import and 3,118 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 1,071 of 20's and 573 of 40's loaded while 4 of 20's and 21 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 1,225 of 20's and 461 of 40's loaded containers while 345 of 20's and 313 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were five ships namely Hyundai Colombo, Kota Gangteng, PAC Aries, Kirkeholmen and Fu Yu Shan carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were four vessels viz. Kota Gangteng, Mytilini, Pagasitikos and Pristine GV carrying containers and oil tanker respectively currently at the berths.
There were six ships namely Pagasitikos, Pristine GV, MT Lahore, Stolt Vinland, Ikan Siakap and BBC Switzerland carrying containers, oil tankers, ethanol, coal and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday, while another ship namely King Brave with general cargo is expected to sail on Friday. There was one vessel viz. CSC Cyanite carrying naphtha due to arrive on Thursday, while four vessels viz. UASC Ajman, SCF Plymouth, Marinor and Maha-B carrying containers, mogas and project cargo respectively are due to arrive on Friday.
