The Karachi Port handled 87,784 tonnes of cargo comprising 63,734 tonnes of import cargo and 24,050 tonnes of export cargo including 4,729 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 63,734 tonnes comprised of 44,756 tonnes of containerised cargo; 1,825 tonnes of general cargo; 5,153 tonnes of soyabean meal and 12,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 24,050 tonnes comprised of 16,625 tonnes of containerised cargo; 285 tonnes of general cargo and 7,140 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
As many as 4,729 containers comprising 3,410 containers import and 1,319 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 966 of 20's and 1,136 of 40's loaded while 118 of 20's and 27 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 416 of 20's and 243 of 40's loaded containers while 87 of 20's and 165 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were seven ships namely Mytilini, Pagasitikos, Pristine GV, MT Lahore, Stolt Vinland, Ikan Siakap and BBC Switzerland carrying containers, oil tankers, coal and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There were five vessels viz. UASC Ajman, APL Sydney, Ever Pearl, Champion Tern and Urania carrying containers and oil tankers respectively currently at the berths.
There were five ships namely UASC Ajman, APL Sydney, Ever Pearl, Champion Tern and King Brave carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea on Fri, while two ships namely Urania and Maha-B with oil tanker and general cargo respectively are expected to sail on Saturday.
There are two vessels viz. Marinor and Somerset carrying mogas and cement respectively due to arrive on Saurday.
