Backup to police stations: reserved platoons be kept alert: IG

Inspector General (IG) Sindh Police, Iqbal Mehmood Sunday called for keeping reserved platoons alert at the police headquarters for providing backup support to police stations in the wake of the ongoing targeted action against criminals in Karachi.
The IG Sindh, presiding over a meeting about law and order here directed all the districts' SSPs to take steps to properly train officers and jawans deployed at police stations. He said that the measures should be taken for firing practice from the DIGs to the constable level and for this purpose Zonal DIGs should ensure firing practice by two police officers and two jawans at the Police Firing Range on a daily basis.
About the incidents of murders in the city, he said that protection to the life and property of the people is the responsibility of police, adding that a strategy has been devised for scrutinising the performance of every officer and jawan. Iqbal Mehmood emphasised upon the importance of investigation of cases and prosecution and directed the station investigation officers (SIOs) and SHOs to prepare the lists of accused and convicts.
He said that investigation officers should ensure pursuing the cases and arrest of proclaimed offenders through targeted actions. The IG said that relevant SHO will promptly reach crime scenes to save it and SIO will collect evidence from there, while forensic division's officials will also be called to save evidence through advanced procedures.
