The Federal Board of Revenue Tuesday issued Annual Tax Directory containing the names of more than 800,000 taxpayers for (Tax Year 2013) disclosing titles and tax payments of the income tax return filers, corporations, Association of Persons (AOPs) and individuals.
The tax directory has not disclosed the annual income of all taxpayers. Only National Tax Numbers (NTNs) and tax paid for the Tax Year 2013 has been specified in the directory of all taxpayers for the year ended June 2013. The directory has been tabulated from returns filed manually and electronically (till April 14, 2014). Manually filed returns have been entered into the system. There may be some discrepancies at the level of filing or data entry. Moreover, a considerable number of manually filed returns could not be entered into the system despite best efforts due to missing identifiers on the returns.
Taxpayers are requested to review their return data and if there is any discrepancy in their published data or the Return is not available in the Directory, it may be brought to the notice of the Member (IR-Policy), FBR House, Constitution Avenue, Islamabad, Phone No: 051-9205221; email address: memberir@fbr.gov.pk by 15 May 2014. Based on this feedback, the final version of the Directory shall be published by June 30, 2014. Till said date, this Directory may be treated as provisional edition, FBR added.
According to an announcement of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Tuesday, on January 6, 2014, during speech in Senate, he had announced to publish a Tax Directory of all taxpayers, in exercise of powers conferred under sub-section (5) of section of 216 of Income Tax Ordinance, 2001. The government has now presented the Annual Tax Directory of all taxpayers for the tax years 2013, prepared by the Federal Board of Revenue. This Tax Directory provides the name, NTN and amount of tax paid by those who had filed their returns. The Tax Directory comprises three sections ie Corporations, AOPs and individuals and has been prepared in alphabetical order. This is an important milestone in providing access to information to the general public and should help in creating a sense of public awareness, motivation and transparency.
Ishaq Dar commended the FBR Chairman, officers and staff of the FBR who worked to produce the directory. Tax experts congratulated the FBR that Federal Board of Revenue has published a directory for all taxpayers by doing this FBR has achieved an important milestone in providing access to information to the general public which would be helpful in creating a sense of public awareness, motivation and transparency.

In this regard in exercise of powers conferred under sub-section (5) of section of 216 of Income Tax Ordinance, 2001 Annual Tax Directory of all taxpayers for the tax years 2013, has been published for the information of the general public, they added.
