Pakistan Ulema Conference (PUC) head Allama Tahir Ashrafi has termed the Pakistan Protection Ordinance (PPO) an oppressive law. Speaking at the Ulema Mashaikh Conference in Karachi on Wednesday, Allama Ashrafi categorically said the PPO was unacceptable. Moreover, the conference passed a resolution, calling on the government to punish those found guilty of committing acts of blasphemy.
According to the resolution, religious scholars belonging to different sects pledged they won't call each other as non-Muslims. Speaking on this occasion, MQM leader Farooq Sattar said that some elements were trying to defame the country under the guise of religion. "Time has come to fight a war for Pakistan's survival," he added.
