Taliban talks: government chooses weak dialogue mechanism: JUI-F

17 Apr, 2014

The spokesperson of JUI-F, Jan Achakzai, has expressed disappointment that government has failed to capitalise on ceasefire by choosing weak dialogue mechanism and dragging feet on meaningful confidence building measures during the ceasefire period. In a statement issue here on Wednesday, Jan Achakzai said that government did not speak with one voice and did not take on board political and institutional stakeholders.
"Government's strategy was beset with lack of vision, priorities and direction as a result it has lost a golden opportunity to hold meaningful dialogue during ceasefire", he added. He said that JUI-F demands new round of dialogue with serious mechanism backed by people of FATA, political forces and all state institutions. He said that government needs to send a clear message that it is serious in taking confidence building measures.
He said: "We also appeal to the Taliban to reconsider extension of ceasefire and do not give up on peaceful resolution of all issues". He said that JUI-F has always stood for serious dialogue with the Taliban, adding that it is time that the government takes all political parties on board.-PR
