Two more children suffering from measles died in North Waziristan, taking the death toll to four in the district on Wednesday. The latest deaths are reported from Tehsil Shehwa of North Waziristan. According to health department officials, Pakistan is among the countries where measles are spreading fast. Ironically, no anti-measles campaign could be started in North Waziristan region as yet.
The officials said health teams have been dispatched to the affected area. World Health Organisation said a total of 16 children died of measles in tribal areas of Pakistan. Doctors in Miranshah said military operation and persistent load shedding triggered shortage of medicines in the district. Over 10 patients have been admitted at Miranshah Hospital on daily basis, but the sanatorium lacks proper facilities for treatment of measles.
