Watermelon sales in full swing in twin cities

With large supply of watermelons, vendors have set up stalls of red juicy fruit in different areas of twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Large number of stalls of watermelons could be seen in Khanna Pul, Sadiqabad, Satellite Town, Tench Bhata, Dhok Paracha, Dhok Khabba, Committee chowk, sectors I-9, I-10, G-9, G-10, G-7, G-6, G-8 and other areas.
A watermelon of 5 kg is being sold at Rs100 to Rs150. The residents said that the rates of watermelon should be decreased, as it is favourite fruit of the poor in summer.
Dr Javed Malik talking to APP about the benefits of watermelon said the lycopene in watermelon is especially important for our cardiovascular health and is now being recognised as an important factor in promoting bone health.
Consuming large amounts of watermelon has also been correlated with improved cardiovascular function because it improves blood flow via vasodilation (relaxation of blood pressure).
Rich in potassium, watermelon is a great natural electrolyte and thus helps regulate the action of nerves and muscles in our body.
Potassium determines the degree and frequency with which our muscles contract, and controls the excitation of nerves in our body, he added.
