National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) is expected to slash power tariff of Distribution Companies (Discos) by Rs 1.48 per unit for April 2014 under the monthly fuel adjustment mechanism. Nepra will hear a petition on Wednesday (today) filed by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA), which has informed the regulator that average price of electricity has been reduced to Rs 8.4925 per unit over the reference price of Rs 9.9751 per unit in March 2014.
According to the data, cost of hydel is Rs 1.10 per unit, coal - Rs 4.4998 per unit, HSD - Rs 21.9408 per unit, RFO - Rs 15.2794 per unit, gas - Rs 4.6733 per unit, nuclear - Rs 1.3275 per unit and import Iran - Rs 9.79 per unit. In April 2014, energy generated from different sources stood at 6,908.50 GWh at the rate of Rs 8.4925 per unit and the total cost of which has been calculated at Rs 58.670 billion. However, net delivered electricity to Discos stood at 6,908.50 GWh as 149.79 GWh was lost in transmission.
