National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Wednesday reduced power tariff of Distribution Companies (Discos) by Rs 1.48 per unit for April 2014 under the monthly fuel adjustment mechanism. The relief is being given to consumers because total power generation cost declined by Rs 12 billion last month.
On Wednesday, the authority held a public hearing on a petition filed by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA), which claimed that average price of electricity had declined to Rs 8.4925 per unit in April 2014 over reference price of Rs 9.9751 per unit in March 2014. Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Water and Power conducted a diagnostic study to improve the capacity of its top-brass. Insiders claim that Nepra members who are 'non-technical', will be fired soon.
