Gorakh Hills gets insufficient funds in budget

27 Jun, 2014

Gorakh Hills station has failed to get priority in recently announced Sindh budget, despite having capability of generating millions of revenue for the provincial government. Sindh government in its budget for the fiscal 2013-2014 has allocated Rs 300 million for Gorakh Hill despite knowing that construction of road (from Johi to Gorakh Hills) would alone cost Rs 332m. The road which is still un-construction was creating immense difficulties for those trying to visit the Gorakh Hills.
Although, Sindh government has agreed to provide Rs 130m for the construction of road, but the authority has been receiving only 10 million annually. Around 100 tourists from interior Sindh have been visiting this place daily but due to non-availability of proper hotels and rest houses they have been staying in tents. An official of Gorakh Hill Development Authority said that the government's lack of interest in promoting tourism sector could be gauged from the fact that it had spent only Rs 800m in the last 12 years for development of Gorakh Hills.
