Indian police vehicle crushes civilian to death in Srinagar

A man was crushed to death while another was injured on Saturday after a vehicle of Indian paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) ran over them in Nowhatta area of Srinagar.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the CRPF vehicle knocked down two boys when they sped past a group of protesters gathered outside Srinagar’s Jamia Masjid at Nowhatta. The young men were identified as Younis Ahmed and Qaiser Butt.

Both the injured were rushed to a hospital where Butt succumbed to his injuries. Butt, an orphan, along with his teenage sisters, was living with his aunt. Butt had recently started Kashmir art business.

The protesters had gathered to protest against the desecration of the grand mosque by the Indian police. The image of the boy being crushed under the Indian vehicle went viral on social media, which led to clashes between the protesters and the Indian forces. During the clash several youth were injured.
