GHCL employees being treated as rolling stones

05 Jul, 2014

Ministry of Water and Power is reportedly treating the employees of Government Holding Company Limited (GHCL) as rolling stones, well informed sources told Business Recorder. Sources said, in 2002, GHCL Islamabad office was established with a massive investment by Naveed Ismail, the then CEO of the company - a close friend of the then Minister for Water and Power, Ahmad Mukhtar.
Naveed Ismail's services were hired to commence coal-fired projects but he could not succeed in his plan because of a controversy with respect to his perks and privileges. After his exit, the office of GHCL Islamabad was shifted in 2013 to Lahore to save a huge amount of rent and other O&M expenses.
After taking over the justified additional charges of the post of CEO, GHCL by Aftab Nadeem, Joint Secretary (NTDC), MoW&P Islamabad, shifted CEO, GHCL office to Islamabad after spending a huge amount and acquired a rented bungalow near the Faisal Mosque. "A person who has just an additional charge of the post is now trying to shift almost 125 employees who are settled since long in Lahore," sources added.
"We are employees of Government of Pakistan but we don't understand on what grounds the offices of GHCL are again shifted to Islamabad," said an employee on condition of anonymity GHCL now only deals with payment of interest to banks on loans obtained for the power sector.
