PPP denies deal with Musharraf

13 Jul, 2014

Pakistan People's Party spokesman Senator Farhatullah Babar has dismissed the statement given by former prime minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, insisting that there was no deal with former military ruler General Pervez Musharraf (retired) to resign. The PPP spokesman said Musharraf had resigned and made a decision to leave Pakistan out of fear that he would be impeached.
He said PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari had formed a team to prepare Musharraf's impeachment documents which included Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders, Ishaq Dar and Ahsan Iqbal, while Farhatullah Babar, Raza Rabbani and Sharjeel Memon represented the PPP in the team. Babar said that Musharraf was sent a message of his impeachment process being completed after resolutions were passed in the provincial assemblies. On Thursday, Gilani told journalists that Musharraf had resigned after promises had been made of his 'honourable exit' and the PML-N was part of these discussions.
