The Karachi Port handled 39,020 tonnes of cargo comprising 36,603 tonnes of import cargo and 2,417 tonnes of export cargo including 2,195 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 36,603 tonnes comprised of 13,823 tonnes of containerised cargo; 22,780 tonnes of bulk cargo: 15,890 tonnes of coal; 4,132 tonnes of DAP and 2,758 tonnes of soyabean meal.
The total export cargo of 2,417 tonnes comprised of 1,584 tonnes of containerised cargo and 833 tonnes of cement. As many as 2,195 containers comprising 1,030 containers import and 1,165 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday. The breakup of imported containers shows 250 of 20's and 385 40's loaded while 10 of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 7 of 20's and 52 of 40's loaded containers while 28 of 20's and 513 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were three ships namely APL Denver, UASC Ajman and PAC Aries carrying containers respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were four vessels viz. Hyundai Colombo, Wan Hai-508, Violetta and Morning Ibis carrying containers and oil tanker respectively currently at the berths. There were two ships namely Violetta and Morning Margareta carrying containers and vehicles respectively sailed out to sea on Friday, while another ship namely Hyundai Colombo carrying containers is expected to sail on Saturday.
There were four vessels viz. APL Seattle, EL Gurdabia, Fairchem Kiso and Ikan Parang carrying containers, oil tankers and coal due to arrive on Friday, while seven vessels viz. Teera Bhum, Ever Result, Ocean Star-1, Oriental Protea, Hua Quang, Stplt Glory and Pacific Vision carrying containers, oil tankers, chemical and steel respectively are due to arrive on Saturday.
