The first meeting of the PML-N provincial committee set up to celebrate the Independence Day in a befitting manner was held under the chairmanship of Punjab PML-N Secretary General and Labour Minister Raja Ashfaq Sarwar here on Tuesday. Labour Minister while expressing his views said the ideology of Pakistan would be highlighted and the celebrations would be marked as a symbol of unity.
The meeting decided that on the Independence Day the sanctity of the national flag would be held high and no one would be allowed to show any disrespect in this regard. The body set up under the direction of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has been named 'Mah-e-Azadi Committee' which comprises Provincial Ministers Malik Nadeem Kamran, Chaudhry Muhammad Shafiq, Khalil Tahir Sindhu, Mohtarma Zakiya Shah Nawaz, Adviser to CM Khwaja Salman Rafiq, PML-N City President Muhammad Pervez Malik, MNAs and MPAs Rana Muhammad Arshad and Zaeem Hussain Qadri, Taufeeq Butt, Amjad Javed Chaudhry and Ramesh Singh Arora, and others as members.
The provincial ministers suggested that people would be motivated to promote nationalism. The meeting decided to involve the party organisations at every level in the Independence Day celebrations which would continue throughout the month. The celebration would begin from August 12 and reach the climax on August 14, and later on continue throughout the month. The meeting also decided to raise national flags at every public place.
The meeting also decided to involve the eminent personalities who won the laurels in the various walks of life in the Independence Day festivities, besides holding various programmes and seminars, symposiums, quiz programmes, etc. Raja Ashfaq Sarwar said that the committee would meet again on Thursday to finalise the Independence Day programmes with the participation of the district presidents of the party organisations. Parliamentary Secretary in the Punjab Assembly, Rana Muhammad Arshad said the party wants to send a message to the world that the whole nation supports our armed forces which are fighting terrorism in North Waziristan Agency. He said the celebrations would also represent unity against internal and the external forces which want to hamper the progress and prosperity which the country has begun to attain under the PML-N rule.
