Activities at Karachi and Qasim ports

The Karachi Port handled 131,886 tonnes of cargo comprising 118,551 tonnes of import cargo and 13,335 tonnes of export cargo including 4,236 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 118,551 tonnes comprised of 37,194 tonnes of containerised cargo; 6,731 tonnes of general cargo; 31,836 tonnes of bulk cargo: 24,918 tonnes of coal; 6,918 tonnes of soyabean meal and 42,790 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 13,335 tonnes comprised of 10,635 tonnes of containerised cargo and 2,700 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 4,236 containers comprising 2,819 containers import and 1,417 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.
The breakup of imported containers shows 759 of 20's and 1,022 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 8 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 353 of 20's and 132 of 40's loaded containers while 264 of 20's and 268 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were eight ships namely HS Marco Polo, Mataquito, MOL Distinction, Selay-S, Northwind, Pindos-III, Spar Gemini and Glorious Fuji carrying containers, oil tankers, barge, tug, coal and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were seven vessels viz. Cape Marin, Posen, Santa Rosa, YM Elixir, Selay-S, Star Mistral and Agria carrying containers, oil tanker and coal respectively currently at the berths.
There were three ships namely Cape Marin, Posen and Desh Mahima containers and oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea on Wednesday, while four ships namely Santa Rosa, Kota Kasturi, Port Menier and Ikan Prang carrying containers, oil tanker and coal respectively are expected to sail on Thursday.
There were two vessels viz. CSC Auspicious and Al-Mahboobah carrying oil tanker and chemical respectively due to arrive on Wednesday, while seven vessels viz. APL Sydney, PAC Aries, Naira, UASC Ajman, Cosco Kobe, Stolt Endurance and Marselis Borg carrying containers, gas and project cargo respectively are due to arrive on Thursday.

The total export cargo of 59,698 tonnes includes 15,000 tonnes of cement and 44,698 tonnes of containerised cargo. There were two ships namely CV Hanjin Malta and MV Atlantic Glory with containers and chemical sailed out sea on Wednesday morning, while two more ships namely CV Safmarine Ngami and CV Maersk Kingston with containers are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.
A total number of ten vessels viz. CV Safmarine Ngami, CV Maersk Kingston, CV Cape Marin, CV Hanjin Malta, MV Thor Breeze, MV Anna Maria, MV Arundel Castle, MV Atlantic Glory, MT Feng Hai-35 and MT Quetta currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, cement, fertilizer, iron ore, chemical and diesel oil respectively during the last 24 hours.
As many as three ships namely CMA CGM Corneille, Al-Soor-II and Therosa Mars with containers, diesel oil and palm oil are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There were two vessels viz. CV CMA CGM Corneille and MT Therosa Mars with containers and palm oil expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Wednesday. There are no ships due to arrive on Wednesday.
