02 Aug, 2014

Ukraine's grain exports rose to 2.03 million tonnes in July, the first month of the 2014/15 season, from 853,800 tonnes sold abroad in June, the Ukrainian agriculture ministry said on Thursday. The ministry said in a statement the volume included 824,000 tonnes of wheat, 900,000 tonnes of barley and 288,000 tonnes of maize.
Ukraine exported 310,000 tonnes of wheat, 149,500 tonnes of barley and 308,100 tonnes of maize in June.
The country, which harvested a record 63 million tonnes of grain in 2013, exported a total of 31.8 million tonnes last season, according to analyst UkrAgroConsult.
This year, Ukraine plans to thresh around 60 million tonnes of grain and export about 31 million tonnes, mostly maize and wheat.
Agriculture minister Ihor Shvaika said last week that Ukraine might lose up to 550,000 tonnes of grain this year due to conflict in the east with pro-Russian separatists.
The ministry said that farms had harvested 26.1 million tonnes of grain from 7.7 million hectares of the sown area as of July 30.
