Election reforms: meeting of parliamentary body on August 6

The maiden meeting of the parliamentary committee on electoral reforms is expected to be held on August 6 in which it will elect its chairman. Well placed sources in the government told INP on Friday that Finance Minister Senator Ishaq is likely to be elected chairman of the parliamentary committee. A notification in this regard is expected to be released on August 4.
Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq has contacted Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah and Ishaq Dar in this regard.
The sources said the PPP, JUI-F, PML-Q, BNP, PML-Zia, QWP and JI have assured their support for Ishaq Dar to head the committee. The PTI and AML of Sheikh Rashid Ahmed will be contacted in this regard on August 4. Ishaq Dar will be elected unopposed as the committee head if the PTI supported him.
The committee is tasked recommend suggestions to remove anomalies in the election system, formation of caretaker government, appointment of Election Commission members and other related matters and submit its report in the Parliament House within three months. The sources said formal meetings of the committee will begin before August 14.
