Apropos 'JI chief quits KP finance minister's post', carried by Business Recorder on July 24, the Amir of Jamaat-i-Islami, Pakistan Sirajul Haq has made the right decision by quitting the office of Senior Minister in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government. According to JI spokesperson from Mansoora, Siraj tendered his resignation through a letter that he addressed to Chief Minister KPK Pervez Khattak on July 23.
"In his letter, Sirajul Haq said that after assuming office as Finance Minister in KP second time, he had tried his best to advance the common agenda of the coalition government in the province. During this period, he had introduced reforms in the Finance department and set up an ideal financial discipline, due to which the debt of the provincial government had come down."
There is no doubt about the fact that Siraj had done really well in his two stints as provincial finance minister. He, however, made a mistake when he continued to work as a senior minister even after his election as the Amir of Jamaat-i-Islami. An amicable and soft-spoken Sirajul Haq can therefore be accused of lowering the dignity of the office of the JI chief.
